American sports is entering a new era — and you can see it in the stadiums being built across the country.
From soccer-specific venues to enormous NFL domes, modern college football facilities, and even a spectacular new baseball stadium rising on the Las Vegas Strip, the traditional American sports stadium is changing.
So, let’s take a look at 12 stadium projects that are currently rising across the country.
AlumniFi Field – Detroit City FC

In Detroit, one of America’s most passionate soccer clubs is preparing to leave its historic home at Keyworth Stadium.
Detroit City FC’s new AlumniFi Field is planned as a 15,000-seat soccer-specific stadium in southwest Detroit, with an estimated cost of between $150 million and $200 million.
But this isn’t simply a stadium project.
The development is being built on the site of the abandoned Southwest Detroit Hospital, a facility that had been vacant and deteriorating for years.
The cleanup itself has been an enormous challenge. Contractors had to remove more than two million gallons of contaminated water from the hospital’s flooded basement. Those complications helped push the opening date to spring 2028.
Amway Stadium – AC Grand Rapids

Just across Michigan, another soccer-specific stadium is taking shape.
Amway Stadium in Grand Rapids will become the new home of AC Grand Rapids, a newly minted expansion franchise in the MLS Next Pro league.
With an initial capacity of around 8,500 spectators, the venue will be expandable to approximately 11,000.
The stadium is scheduled to open in spring 2027, with an estimated cost of $175 million.
Republic Stadium – Sacramento Republic FC

Another soccer-specific lower-division stadium is currently being constructed in Sacramento. Once completed, it will be the home of Sacramento Republic FC of the USL Championship.
The Republic Stadium is expected to seat more than 20,000 spectators, making it one of the largest soccer-first venues in the region.
The stadium is rising at Sacramento’s historic Railyards and is currently targeted to open in 2028.
Oklahoma City Stadium – OKC United

Oklahoma City is joining the soccer-specific stadium boom as well.
The stadium broke ground in June 2026 and is planned to hold around 10,000 spectators, with a target opening in 2028.
It will be the home of OKC United, which is expected to return to the USL Championship in 2028.
The $71 million stadium will also be the home of a future United Football League team.
Etihad Park – New York City FC

Leaving the lower league teams and heading to the MLS, where few clubs have waited longer for a permanent home than New York City FC.
Since joining MLS in 2015, New York City FC has famously shared baseball stadiums, primarily Yankee Stadium and Citi Field.
That era is finally coming to an end. Etihad Park, currently scheduled to open in July 2027, will give the club its first true soccer-specific stadium.
Located in Willets Point, Queens, the $780 million project will seat approximately 25,000 fans.
The stadium will also eventually become home to National Women’s Soccer League club Gotham FC.
McDonald’s Park – Chicago Fire

Chicago Fire FC is also preparing to leave its current NFL surroundings.
The club’s new McDonald’s Park is planned as a 22,000-seat soccer-specific stadium in Chicago.
Targeted for completion in 2028, the 750 million dollars venue will finally give the Fire a stadium built around soccer rather than forcing the club to adapt to a much larger football facility.
New Huntington Bank Field – Cleveland Browns

Not every project on this list is soccer-specific.
In Cleveland, the Browns are planning something much bigger.
The proposed new Huntington Bank Field in Brook Park, Ohio, is expected to hold approximately 67,500 spectators, with a target opening around 2029.
And this project represents a major shift for the franchise. Instead of remaining on Cleveland’s downtown lakefront, the Browns are moving toward a much larger suburban development site.
New Nissan Stadium – Tennessee Titans

In Nashville, the Tennessee Titans are taking stadium construction to another level.
The new Nissan Stadium is a projected $2.1 billion facility scheduled for completion in 2027.
It will hold approximately 60,000 fans and feature a translucent dome design.
It is being built next to the existing Nissan Stadium, which will be demolished after its completion. The stadium will host Super Bowl 64 in 2030.
USF Stadium – University of South Florida

But it’s not just soccer and the NFL. College football is undergoing its own stadium revolution.
At the University of South Florida, the Bulls are building a new 35,000-seat on-campus stadium in Tampa.
The project is expected to cost approximately $350 million and is targeted for completion in fall 2027.
For years, the Bulls have played at Raymond James Stadium, an NFL venue located away from the university campus. The new stadium will finally put USF football at the heart of campus.
Ryan Field – Northwestern University

For more than a century, Northwestern football has been closely associated with Ryan Field in Evanston, Illinois.
But the stadium fans knew for generations is now being replaced by something radically different.
The new Ryan Field is one of the most ambitious collegiate stadium projects in the United States — a roughly $860 million redevelopment that will reduce capacity from around 47,000 to just 35,000 seats.
This will make Ryan Field the most expensive college football stadium in the country.
David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium – University of Kansas

While some universities are building entirely new venues, others are engaging in massive preservation and modernization projects.
The University of Kansas is currently executing a $448 million total reconstruction of the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence, targeting a 47,000-seat capacity to open in 2026.
For the construction, the stadium will undergo a near-total demolition with minimal original structures in the stadium remaining.
New Las Vegas Stadium – Athletics

And finally we head to one of the most spectacular stadium projects in the entire United States.
Las Vegas is getting Major League Baseball.
The Athletics are building a new 33,000-seat ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip, and by 2028, this stadium is expected to become the permanent home of the franchise.
The project is currently estimated at approximately $1.75 billion, making it one of the most expensive baseball stadiums ever built.
The stadium is being constructed on approximately nine acres of the former Tropicana Las Vegas site.
The most impressive feature of the new stadium is the roof. The ballpark will be fully enclosed by a roof designed to reduce direct sunlight while still allowing natural light into the stadium.
Construction officially began in June 2025 and the stadium is expected to be ready in 2028.
