2024 Summer Olympics Football Stadiums

The 2024 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, are scheduled to be held in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

Football (soccer) has a long history in the Summer Olympics, being one of the most popular and competitive events. It was first introduced at the Summer Olympics in 1900 for men and in 1996 for women.

Initially, the men’s tournament was open to amateur players only. Since 1992, it has been an under-23 event with three over-age players allowed per team. The women’s tournament, added in 1996, has no age restrictions, allowing full national teams to compete.

Both tournaments will be hosted in 7 different cities and in this article we will have a look at the stadiums that will host the games.

Stade Vélodrome – Marseille

The Stade Vélodrome has been home to the Olympique de Marseille since it opened in 1937, and has been a venue in 2 FIFA World Cups and in 3 editions of the UEFA Euro Championship.

It is the biggest stadium in the competition with a capacity of 67,000.

In the 2024 Summer Olympics, it will host 10 games including the men’s and women’s semifinal.

Parc Olympique Lyonnais – Lyon

The second biggest stadium in the competition with a capacity of 59,000 is Parc Olympique Lyonnais in the city of Lyon.

The stadium was a host of Euro 2016 and the 2018 Europa League Final.

In the Olympics it will host 12 games including the women’s bronze medal match.

Parc des Princes – Paris

The Parc de Princes is the only football stadium in the Olympics that is located in Paris.

It can hold 48,000 people and in its history, it has hosted 2 World Cups, 3 Euro Champions, and several finals in the European football competitions.

In the Olympics it will host the 10 games including the two finals in the men’s and the women’s tournament.

Stade Geoffroy-Guichard – Saint-Étienne

The Stade Geoffroy-Guichard has a capacity of 42,000 people and is located in the city of Saint-Étienne.

It was the venue for the Euro 1984 and 2016 and the 1998 World Cup.

At the Olympics, it will host 6 group-stage games.

Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux – Bordeaux

The Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux can seat 42,000 spectators and it was one of the venues of the Euro 2016.
In the Summer Olympics, it will host 7 games.

Allianz Riviera – Nice

Allianz Riviera

The Allianz Riviera is located in the city of Nice and has a capacity of 36,000 people.

It was one of the venues of the UEFA Euro 2016.

At the Olympic games, it will host 6 group stage matches.

Stade de la Beaujoire – Nantes

Stade de la Beaujoire

The smallest stadium in the Olympics with a capacity of 35,000 people is the Stade de la Beaujoire in the city of Nantes.

It has hosted games for the Euro 1984 and the 1998 World Cup.

In the Olympics, it will host 7 games, including the men’s bronze medal match.
