The USL Championship is a professional soccer league in the United States, recognized as the second tier of the American soccer pyramid below Major League Soccer (MLS).
Founded in 2010, it was originally called the USL Pro and was rebranded to USL Championship in 2019.
Unlike many soccer leagues globally, the USL Championship does not have a promotion and relegation system with MLS or lower divisions.
The league features 24 teams across the United States and teams are divided into Eastern and Western Conferences. Teams will play a home and away schedule within their conference and an additional twelve games (six at home and six away) against teams from the opposing conference for a total of 34 games. The top eight teams in each conference will qualify for the 2024 USL Championship Playoffs after the regular season. The top 8 teams in each conference will make the playoffs which are played in a single-elimination, fixed bracket format.
