Since launching its International Series in 2007, the NFL has steadily expanded its presence beyond U.S. shores, bringing regular-season games to multiple countries.
Below are the stadiums that have hosted these international games.
Wembley Stadium (London, United Kingdom)
Wembley hosted the first regular-season NFL game in Europe in 2007, when the New York Giants faced the Miami Dolphins in a rain-soaked but historic matchup.
The stadium’s massive capacity and international profile helped establish London as the NFL’s home away from the United States. Over the years, it became the league’s primary hub for international games, hosting 27 games to date.
Wembley was the exclusive home stadium for International Series games from 2007 to 2015.
Twickenham Stadium (London, United Kingdom)
But Wembley wasn’t the only London landmark to get in on the action. For a couple of seasons, the league also settled into Twickenham Stadium, the historic stronghold of English rugby.
Starting in 2016, the NFL played a short but memorable run of games there.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (London, United Kingdom)
London deepened its relationship with the NFL in 2019 when Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosted its first game.
Unlike Wembley, Tottenham’s stadium was designed with American football in mind. It features a retractable pitch and a dedicated NFL-specific field beneath the soccer surface — the first stadium outside North America built with such accommodations.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosts multiple International Series games per year under a long-term agreement.
Allianz Arena (Munich, Germany)
As interest surged across Europe, Germany emerged as a new frontier. Munich’s Allianz Arena became the first German stadium to host a regular-season NFL game in 2022.
The event drew enormous excitement, affirming Germany as one of the strongest non-U.S. markets for the sport.
Deutsche Bank Park (Frankfurt, Germany)
Frankfurt soon joined the NFL movement in Germany, with Deutsche Bank Park becoming another venue for league games.
The stadium hosted 2 games for the 2023 season.
Olympiastadion Berlin (Berlin, Germany)
In November 2025, the NFL landed in Berlin, bringing regular-season football to the capital for the very first time with the Indianapolis Colts beating the Atlanta Falcons in overtime.
Berlin had hosted NFL pre-season exhibition games decades earlier, but this was something completely different — a full-stakes, regular-season showdown.
Croke Park (Dublin, United Kingdom)
On September 28, 2025, the league arrived in Dublin for a moment that fans had waited decades to see.
Croke Park, the legendary home of Gaelic sport, hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings in a sold-out showdown.
Santiago Bernabeu (Madrid, Spain)
Less than two months later, the NFL took over one of Europe’s most iconic arenas: the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid.
On November 16, 2025, 78,000 fans packed the newly renovated stadium to watch the Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders face off in Spain’s first-ever NFL regular-season game.
The matchup went into overtime, and Madrid embraced the event with the same passion it shows for its own football giants.
Estadio Azteca (Mexico City, Mexico)
Beyond Europe, Mexico City has been another significant chapter in the NFL’s global expansion.
Estadio Azteca hosted the first official regular-season game ever played outside the U.S. back in 2005, when more than 100,000 fans filled the stadium for a matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers. This was the highest NFL attendance at the time.
After a short break since 2022, the historic venue with 2 World Cup finals will continue to host NFL games.
Arena Corinthians (São Paulo, Brazil)
In 2024, Arena Corinthians in Brazil made history by hosting the first-ever regular-season NFL game in South America, an event that demonstrated both the market’s appetite for American football and the league’s commitment to global growth.
Building on that success, the NFL returned to São Paulo in 2025, designating the Los Angeles Chargers as the city’s representative team to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
Future Stadiums
Looking ahead to new international venues, Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro is scheduled to host three NFL games over the next five years, while Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia is set to welcome its first regular-season game in 2026.
