The third tier of the American soccer pyramid includes 3 Leagues. The USL League One, the National Independent Soccer Association, and the MLS Next Pro. The USL League One is operated by the United Soccer League with the second-tier USL Championship. The MLS Next Pro is affiliated with the MLS while the National Independent Soccer Association operates its own division.
The USL League 1 was inaugurated in 2019. The league now has 12 teams who play 32 regular season games, followed by playoffs. In this article, we will have a look at the stadiums that will host this tournament.
2023 USL League 1 Stadiums
The City Stadium, located in Richmond, Virginia, was built in 1929 and has a capacity of 22,000. It has been the home of the Richmond Kickers since 1995 with a maximum capacity of 6,000 people for soccer matches. The Kickers, who are the current champions of the league, are one of the oldest American soccer teams as they have been active since 1993.
The American Legion Memorial Stadium is a 10,500-seat stadium located in Charlotte, North Carolina. It opened in 1936 and since 2021 it the home of Charlotte Independence. The team was established in 2014 and dropped down to USL League One from USL Championship in 2022.
The CHI Memorial Stadium is a 5,500-seat soccer-specific stadium in East Ridge, Tennessee built in 2020. It serves as the home stadium for Chattanooga Red Wolves, a founding member of USL League One.
The Werner Park is a minor-league baseball stadium located in Papillion, Nebraska. It opened in 2011 with a capacity of 9,023. Since 2020, the stadium is the home of Union Omaha. In 2020, the team made its debut in USL League One.
The Regal Stadium is a 3,000-seat stadium located on the campus of the University of Tennesse in Knoxville. The stadium is the home of One Knoxville Sporting Club. Founded in 2021, the club will advance to the professional level and join USL League One this year for the first time.
The Toyota Stadium is located in Georgetown, Kentucky, and is the home ground of Georgetown College’s sports teams. It is also the host stadium for Lexington SC of USL League One. The team was established in 2021 and will begin its first season in 2023. The stadium has a capacity of 5,000 people and was constructed in 1997.
The Sahlen’s Stadium is a soccer-specific stadium inside the WakeMed Soccer Park, a major soccer complex in Cary, North Carolina. It was built in 2002 with a 10,000 seats capacity. The stadium is home to North Carolina FC since 2007. The club played in the USL Championship for many years but decided to drop down to the third-tier USL League 1 in 2021.
The Paladin Stadium is a 16,000-seat facility located near Greenville, South Carolina. It was built in 1981 and has a 16,000 seats capacity. For 2023 it will be the home to Greenville Triumph SC a founding member of the USL League 1.
Breese Stevens Municipal Athletic Field, located in Madison, Wisconsin, is a multi-purpose stadium that can accommodate up to 5,000 people. Constructed in 1925, it is the oldest sports park in the city and has been deemed a city landmark since 1995. In 2015 it was also added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is home to the Forward Madison FC which originated in 2018 and played its first season in 2019.
The Fresno State Soccer Stadium is situated in Fresno, California, and is part of California State University. With 1,000 seats it is the smallest stadium in the league. It serves as the home for Central Valley Fuego FC football club, which was established in 2020 and kicked off its first season two years later in 2022.
Optim Sports Medicine Field, located in Statesboro, Georgia, is a brand-new soccer-specific stadium with a capacity of 5,300 seats. It serves as the home ground for South Georgia Tormenta FC – one of the founding teams of USL League 1.
Finally, we have Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC which is based in Windsor, Colorado. The club was founded in 2021 and made its competitive debut in 2022. The team is likely to play at play its games in the TicketMaster stadium which is expected to be ready before the start of the league and will have a capacity of 6,500 seats.
